Eng. Mohamed Khalil Ahmed is a senior executive with 25 years of diversified experience across aviation, real estate development and investment, commercial strategy, and business development. Currently serving as Chief Executive Officer of Bahrain Airport Services (BAS), he brings 14 years of aviation-sector experience alongside an earlier 11-year career in real estate development and investment.

From Architectural Engineering to Business Leadership

Ahmed began his professional journey in 2001 as an architect with Bahrain-based consultancy Architectural World. His career soon expanded beyond architecture, moving into sales and marketing in 2002 with Technal Middle East, where he was responsible for the Bahrain market.

In 2004, he entered real estate development and investment with Al Khaleej Development Company “Tameer.” Over nearly eight years, he progressed through professional and strategic roles, ultimately becoming Executive Director, Head of Property Development & Services.

His responsibilities at Tameer covered real estate development, design and construction management, project management, value engineering and management, contracts management, and strategic planning across industrial, logistics, retail, business, residential, leisure, tourism, social, and marina developments.

Entering Bahrain’s Aviation Sector

A major chapter in Ahmed’s career began in 2012 when he joined Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) as Vice President, Commercial & Marketing. His role focused on optimizing the airport’s revenue streams by developing both aeronautical and non-aeronautical opportunities.

In 2014, he was promoted to Chief Commercial Officer, with oversight spanning aeronautical and non-aeronautical revenues, cargo and logistics business development, corporate communications, and hospitality.

This experience positioned him at the intersection of aviation, commercial development, customer services, and strategic growth.

Expanding Strategic Leadership Across the Aviation Ecosystem

In 2016, Ahmed served as Chief Commercial Officer at GFH Properties, a wholly owned subsidiary of GFH Financial Group.

A year later, he joined Gulf Air Group Holding (GFG), a wholly owned subsidiary of Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company, as Chief Business Development Officer. His mandate centered on expanding the group’s reach and portfolio by identifying investment opportunities and leveraging synergies among subsidiaries to create value and improve income streams.

During this period, he represented GFG on the boards of Bahrain Duty Free Company, Bahrain Airport Services, SSP Bahrain W.L.L., and BAC Jet Fuel Company. He also served as Chairman of the Board Audit Committee and held other board responsibilities across companies within the aviation ecosystem.

Leading Bahrain Airport Services

Ahmed joined Bahrain Airport Services as Chief Executive Officer in May 2021, following his experience as a member of its Board of Directors.

As CEO, he is also accountable for ERP, Quality Management System (QMS), and Safety Management System (SMS) responsibilities. His current leadership reflects the combination of commercial, operational, governance, and strategic experience developed throughout his career.

His professional mission is centered on continuing the development of Bahrain’s aviation value chain and increasing the sector’s contribution to GDP.

A Multidisciplinary Leadership Perspective

Ahmed’s career has been shaped by the ability to work across disciplines. His foundation in architectural engineering provided technical and project-development expertise, while his experience in real estate strengthened his understanding of investment, development, construction, contracts, and value management.

His transition into aviation added commercial strategy, revenue development, business development, hospitality, cargo, passenger services, and corporate communications to that foundation.

Together, these experiences have formed a broad executive perspective that connects infrastructure, commercial opportunity, investment, and aviation-sector development.

Academic and Professional Foundation

Ahmed holds a B.Sc. in Architectural Engineering from the University of Bahrain. He also completed an IATA Airport Strategic Management Diploma through the IATA Training and Development Institute and earned the Certified International Property Specialist (CIPS) designation from the Dubai Real Estate Institute.

His multidisciplinary academic and professional development complements his experience across architecture, real estate, aviation, commercial management, and business development.
